More about this scene

Uppingham School's Memorial Hall and classroom block dominate the street, replacing houses which were demolished in the 1920s. Almost certainly this would not have been permitted by planners today. Opposite is the Central Hotel and Barclays Bank. The White Hart is shown on a town map of 1839 and is likely to be 15th-century in origin. School Lane is just beyond the pub and the lane opposite leads to the Manor House (now the Thring Centre). On the right is part of Tudor House - 'the best house in Uppingham', possibly dated circa 1600.
