Over Easter 1934, there was an epidemic of influenza, measles and chicken pox. The old sanitorium was not big enough and one of the first acts of the new head, J F Wolfenden, was to build a new and large sanatorium on Stockerston Road. This halted boarding-house developments for many years as it used up all the available money. As the photograph shows, it was a splendid building but it proved to be a white elephant. With the move to coeducation it was converted to a girls' boarding house called Fairfield in 1976.
