More about this scene

Parker Almshouses, founded by Robert Parker in 1706, were later replaced by the ones we see here, which are built around a square. The homes of twenty-nine widows and spinsters, these pleasant houses are provided with a chapel. Robert Parker, a Yorkshire man, is not forgotten; his name is inscribed above the entrance as the original benefactor of Waddington Hospital. His birthday is also in the village calendar of events.
