More about this scene
East of Crowborough the tour reaches Wadhurst, once a village of importance in the Wealden iron industry and now a quiet and typical High Weald village. Here the photographer looks along High Street towards the Church Street turning in front of the Wadhurst Stores, now with a front addition of about 1910. Beyond is the gable of the Methodist church of 1874. On the left are Victorian cottages of the 1880s in Sussex style with a tile-hung upper floor, now demolished. Francis Frith's Sussex A Century Ago
