Guinea Gap Baths

A Memory of Wallasey.

Saw some memories about Guinea Gap on here. I went there as a Kid from Moreton in the 1960's probably from 66 - 68. It was old then - Victorian I believe. I learnt to swim there (and Moreton shore) cant remember the instructors name (he had jet black hair) but he was a good bloke and taught me well. My Mum also took lessons there at the same time she was very nervous around water so it took some bottle for her to do it. She wore a red swimming cap and I renamed her "mother Red Cap" after a local character. She never actually cracked it but at least she tried. My Mum often took me and my mates there (Harper, Creed and Young) on a Saturday morning and after our swim I remember drinking hot soup from a vending machine or Pepsi - both tasted great after a swim. I seem to remember the changing cubicles were around edge of the pool. On one occasion all the swimmers suddenly "bomb burst" from the shallow end as some scally had done something despicable in the pool that required an attendant to use a net on a stick to retrieve it. Happy carefree days.
