Elmsleigh Road

A Memory of Wandsworth.

Born in 1947 before the NHS mum was transported to Hitchen to have me (hospitals full in London or too expensive?). I lived in half of a two-up two-down. We had the downstairs. My younger twin sisters and I shared a bed whilst mum & dad slept on the put-u-up. Nanny was across the road above her sister's sweet shop and our other nan around the corner at Whitby House. I had an idealic first 10 years of life until the Trinity Road was built. We had to move to the Alton Estate, Roehampton and my world, at 10 years old, fell apart. Here at 85 Elmsleigh Road we lived below "Uncle" Dan. We raced the streets. We burnt a guy in a street fire in the "frying pan" every 5th November. I followed the gang at 5 years old to Saturday morning pictures. I went to All Farthing Lane School and local Brownies. I have returned recently to trigger memories as my heart belongs to Battersea

I too lived in Elmsleigh Road (No4) from around 1954, just after my birth until 1964 when we moved to Sutton in Surrey. I have many happy memories of living there, but can't seem to find any photos of that immediate area. I know that it doesn't exist anymore as it was demolished to make way for the then new under-pass, but someone somewhere must have a photo of that road? Here's hoping....
I lived at number 19 Elmsleigh Road from 1957 to 1966. I have some ( not so clear) photos of the road, which includes family members. I have very fond memories of living there .
My mother was born 1933 at 93 Elmsleigh Road. If anyone has pictures of the strret or area please post them. Last name was Hill. My dad lived on Denton Street with his family last name Mansell. I used to visit there a lot as a child. Happy Memories.
