Elmsleigh Road

A Memory of Wandsworth.

I lived in Elmsleigh road number 19 , I went to Eltringham infant and junior school. My brother and sister and I used to play out going to the frying pan , we also used to go scrumping near Wandsworth prison. Our teachers at Eltringham were miss Harvey miss Ainsworth and Mr. Sellers. I had the most fantastic times in Elmsleigh road I was one of 10 children living there with my mum and dad. We had a tin bath outside the back toilet .
This was from 1955 to 1965 those were the days. We had such morals and respect in those days as we were all in the same boat with hardly any money . I had some lovely friends . Xxx

I came across this site as I was trying to find information about Huntsmoor Road where I lived from 1944 to 1953. I remember Elmsleigh Road as being the next road on from Huntsmoor Road. I remember Marshall Hooper, and my other friends were Michael White, Brian and Maureen Connell, Bobby Reeves who lived next door, and my sister's friend Maureen Shrubsall. I remember having a trolley on ball bearings, and getting up quite a speed down the hill towards the railway embankment at the bottom. We used to frequent Pearson's sweet shop on Saturday mornings, and I can remember when sweets came off ration. Also remember what we called the oil shop at the top corner of the street. We went to St Faith's school. Remember two of the teachers, Mr Carroll and Miss Martin. Be great to see some old pictures of Huntsmoor Road if anyone has any.

My mum and dads family lived in Elmsleigh rd and Huntsmoor road in the 1950s and I remember visiting my nans house when I was young probably early 1960s. Marshall Hooper was my dads half brother, dads name was Lenard Riddlestone and he married Margaret Bradbury my mum.
