More about this scene
Canon Sir James Philipps, rector from 1859 to 1897, paid Blomfield to renew the church of St Denys in 1887- 89. Nave, aisles, transepts, crossing tower, chancel and chapel came into the renewal programme. Only the early Georgian nave and clerestory was left. From the medieval church, Blomfield also reset the two-thirds of a Norman arch as a window in the north transept.
