More about this scene

This triangular Bath stone fountain stands at the junction of Silver Street, Vicarage Street and Church Street; it was erected in 1783. Danny Howell writes about it in 'The Warminster & District Archive', Winter 1988. The ornamental pineapple on top of the urn was a popular symbol of affluence in the 18th century. A lion's head spout and one of the cattle troughs still remain.

A Day To Remember
Saturday the 8th June 1963 was predicted to be the hottest day of the year thus far. Setting off by coach from Cheltenham were members of a savings club, myself included, bound for Weymouth. Our first stop was for refreshments at the Weymouth Arms in Warminster. Cold Swimming Pool
The was an out door swimming pool just off the park which was very cold and school children were sent there in the 50s and 60s for swimming lessons. I was never very good a swimming. I went to school with Peta Fenner and we became the original members of the Leo Club in Warminster. Glad to know she's well. Christine Stone

The Snooty Fox
Hello Ted I was just looking through the old photos of Warminster when I saw your comment. You may well have found out by now that the Snooty Fox was indeed the Globe public house at the junction of Fore Street and Chapel Street. An interesting comment in "The Inns and Taverns of Warminster" mentions the Globe as being a purpose built Poorhouse in 1836. I was born in 1948 and passed the Wymouth Arms on ...see more

Playing Pirates
My brothers and I were brought up in Warminster from 1961 to 1971. We would spend such great times in the park. We would get half a crown pocket money on a Saturday and it was off to the Regal Cinema for the Saturday Matinee to watch a Western or Laurel and Hardy, plus some cartoons. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
