Warrington, The Circus And Sankey Street c.1955
Photo ref:

More about this scene
Road traffic was much lighter in the 1950s, but even then Sankey Street represented a major bottleneck on the main A57 Liverpool to Manchester Road. Below the Town Clock the blackened sandstone of Holy Trinity Church bears witness to the effects of industrial pollution. Meanwhile a rag and bone man trots on his way in front of the Metro Cleaners.
