Watchet, The Harbour Entrance 1957

More about this scene
Watchet long had a busy harbour. In the 19th century, a railway brought Brendon Hills iron ore here for shipment to Wales. In the 20th century, ships brought in esparto grass for the town's paper mills. The huge tidal range limited the harbour's potential, but now lock gates hold in water for a marina.
