More about this scene
The cottages in this alley still retain a simple charm. The house on the left has been given rough repairs for generations - its toppling dormer lacks several panes of glass. Wells has suffered more than most Norfolk towns from the impact of incomers. In the years since this picture was taken many of its old buildings have either been demolished or tidied up beyond recognition.
