Christmas Deliveries: If you placed an order on or before midday on Friday 19th December for Christmas delivery it was despatched before the Royal Mail or Parcel Force deadline and therefore should be received in time for Christmas. Orders placed after midday on Friday 19th December will be delivered in the New Year.

More about this scene

Lying in the valley of the Severn, the town does not seem particularly Welsh. Its original name was 'Pool', with the 'Welsh' prefix added to distinguish it from Poole in Dorset. The Victorian town hall and its dominating clock tower overlook some fine Tudor and Jacobean town houses. Meanwhile the collection of cars, bikes, pedestrians and perambulators and even a traffic light bear witness to the changing times.

Ah Well, I S'pose That's Progress!!
Loved your reminiscences Patricia. I came to Welshpool in 1965 or thereabouts after ten years in the Merchant Navy, and have loved the area and the folk since then. I worked in the post office at Welshpool, times were good. My Grandad Humphreys Thomas John1875 1965
Grandad Humphreys, he was a carpenter making and restoring the Lockgates on the Montgomery Canal. Born in Welshpool 1875-1965. I remember the little trains running across Church Street as a boy of 8 years old and spent many happy hours visiting the Livestock market and as Grandad lived at Rosegarth ,Greenfields it was very easy to visit. The Rope Swing At The Leighton Bridge
I remember spending many a summer swimming at this spot. Then they seemed to be long hot summers but maybe that's the memory loss of an older man. I noticed that the rope was stiil hanging from the tree which was used to swing out into the river. This would have been in the mid 1950s and so much has changed. Still they can't take away the memories of childhood

The Train That Crossed The Street
From my childhood in Welshpool in the 1940s and 50s I have fond memories of the little steam train which crossed over Church Street, originally on a daily basis then later on Mondays only, carrying livestock from farms in the Llanfair Caereinion area to and from the Smithfield Market in Welshpool. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
