Barn Hill Pond

A Memory of Wembley Park.

I used to ride my bike round this pond: there was a steep 45 degree drop path in the SW corner of the "bowl" which was the highlight of the fun as a kid. Very evocative photo.

I lived at 11 Midholm in 1943 and as I grew my play ground was Barn Hill and the pond area, my best friend Geof lived in the Prefabs on the Frient Way Estate and I waked to his house over the hill and through the bottom wooded area. We moved house in 1958 to Barn Way and from there in 61 I left to join the Army but did not return until 1972. Love all my childhood in Wembley Park.
Remember the Big Freeze of 1962/3 when we used to toboggan down the steep hill towards Kingsbury. We got hold of a strip of corrugated iron and had great fun. We didn’t realise the potential danger of the iron slicing open someone’s leg. Fortunately, no harm came to any of the kids.
