Schweppes Factory West Hendon 1965

A Memory of West Hendon.

I can just remember the factory as it is in this picture I would have been 3 years old at the time. The lettering was in red on a white wall and the fountain was sprung straight from a natural source. By far the best thing about the factory was the smell for 100 meters or more in all directions. most of the time it was a sweet strawberry but my favourite was the days when the air was full of Cream soda.

Does anyone else remember the big Christmas tree they used to have outside there? Was hoping to find a photo of it, though suspect it would probably be black and white! My mums family lived in Park Road, just a short distance along the Edgware Road there. And in this photo theres Hyde House, the tall building in the background. More or less opposite the Schweppes building was a 'field' with a horse in it. Cant think of any more, except the number on that bus..... I remember the 83 and 183 going to Golders Green. Cant recall that one. This photo taken in c1965. I was 3 going on 4 then.
As a kid I used to collect newts from the pond and yes I remember the field opposite with the horse in.. I always remember there was a newsagent nearly opposite called Nobles and was the only place open on a Sunday morning then; sent up by my Dad to get the papers.
My Mum worked in the bottleing area of Shweppes. We lived in Dartmouth road untill we moved to Somerset in 1965/6.
I went to Algernon Road School. Ending my education at St James RC Burnt Oak.
