A Memory of West Hoathly.

Whilst looking on the West Hoathly hub site, I found a picture of myself standing in a camp at Blacklands Farm W64093 and W64091 in 1965. I would have been 9 years of age. My name was Julie Beavis and lived in the village from 1959 to 1971. We were a very large family, I was one of 10 children. We lived in High Fields, North Lane next door to the Barnards who owned one of the two the village shops on one side and the Roper family on the other. Our house caught fire in Jan/Feb in 1967/68 and the villagers rallied round to give us food and clothes. I attended West Hoathly School from 1962. Mr Thomas was the Head Master at that time, I believe Mrs Pocock was also teaching at this time. I recall the Blacksmiths on the corner of North Lane, burning down, but unsure of what year.

Julie Beavis, I remember you but most of all I remember your brother Colin! He was in my class at West Hoathly primary school. I often wonder about my class mates and sadly, lost touch with all of them when we all went off to secondary school apart from Pippa White who was my best friend. So many memories, some happy and some not so happy. I discovered this by chance when I was looking at old photos and read your post and recognised your name!!! I was Carolyn Honey, don't know if you have any memory of me or not. I still have a great affection for West Hoathly and Sharpthorne though I have lived in London for many years now!
Sorry Carolyn Gonet!
