More about this scene
An old centre for the district that had a market close to the Hampshire border and the coast. The church of St John the Baptist has an avenue of yew trees. The Country Stores, a Mace shop complete with modern sunblinds, offers a wide range of supplies. A fine example of a West Sussex County Council signpost with cast iron post and circular ornamentation on the top stands on the pavement. The scene is still similar today, but the shop is a house agent's and the old signpost has been reduced.
