Caption for Weston Super Mare, Birnbeck Pier 1913: This period was perhaps the heyday of the pier, now named the Old Pier. Amusements included the Flying Machine or Airships, Helter Skelter, Maze, Bioscope, Waterchute, Switchback, Cake Walk, Zig Zag Slide, Shooting Jungle, Motor and Bicycle racing, Darts, Ping Pong, Coconut Shies and Aunt Sally. At the entrance, souvenirs, art pottery and seashells were on sale, whilst automatic machines spoke your weight or delivered chocolate bars.
