More about this scene
This monument was erected in 1928 at the site of Monmouth's defeat at the hands of the Royalist army in memory of all those killed during the battle or who subsequently suffered imprisonment, transportation or execution for their support of Monmouth's cause. The four 'mushrooms' are century stones, inscribed with the major British battles of the last four hundred years.
