More about this scene
Lower Promenade c1955 Along with Roker, Seaburn comprises what is in effect the seaside resort area of Sunderland; there have been times when the Cat and Dog steps have positively heaved with sunbathers. A popular attraction during the 1950s was the annual lights along the front and in Roker Park. Those who wanted an inexpensive holiday could book into Seaburn Camp, which even as late as 1960 looked like a German Stalag with flowerbeds.
