Whitby, West Cliff And Gardens 1934

More about this scene
This was to be the site of the other half of George Hudson's dream crescent; because of his bankruptcy, it stayed empty for a long time. Eventually the West Cliff Hotel appeared, and the Princess Royal Hotel (right) was built here half a century later in the 1920s. The Princess Royal became an old people's home, and has recently been converted into individual apartments. A reconverted omnibus, very similar to the one shown here (right), still goes the rounds of the town as a popular attraction for visitors.
