More about this scene

Whitchurch lies opposite Pangbourne, which is situated on the Berkshire bank. This turn-of-the-century photograph captures the atmosphere and feel of the village at that time. Sir John Soane, who rebuilt the Bank of England, was born here. The Royal Oak, now a private house, can be seen at the top of the street.
