More about this scene

Caption for Widford, The Church 1898: Widford ('Willow Ford') was finally swallowed by Chelmsford in 1935. St Mary's Church had been totally rebuilt in the 19th century. It still commands an imposing position, though the field in the foreground has now been bisected by Writtle Bypass - and, behind the viewer, the Robjohns industrial estate has sprung up.
