Winchelsea, Church Of St Thomas The Martyr 1894

More about this scene
This is a magnificent view of the semi-ruinous church of St Thomas, designed to be a big proud church, but probably never finished. Nothing much has changed since this picture was taken a century ago - an echo of Celia Fiennes writing in 1697 'grass grows now where Winchelsea was, as was once said of Troy'.
