Windermere, Rigg's Hotel 1929

More about this scene
The 19th-century entrepreneur Richard Rigg had this spacious hotel constructed. He also operated coaching services across the Lake District to Ambleside, Grasmere and Keswick, and across the Windermere ferry to Hawkshead and Coniston. There were links with the Salutation Inn at Ambleside and the Red Lion Inn at Hawkshead. The motor buses we see here have taken over from Rigg's coaching services -the front one is bound for Keswick. The bus stop is still in the same place, but today's vehicles would certainly not stop on the wrong side of the road!
