Winsford, Village 1892

More about this scene
Climbing up from Dulverton the road crosses typical sheep-grazed Exmoor moorland, bright with yellow gorse flowers and heather, before descending into Winsford in the upper Exe valley. This delightful village of whitewashed cottages focused on a stream has changed little; the tall pine tree has gone, but its stone-walled surround remains. The Royal Oak now has its porches and lean-tos thatched, as well as the main roof.
