More about this scene
The early 16th-century Butter Cross, with its 13 stone piers, was originally built as a shrine; the cupola and clock turret were added in 1683. It no longer functions as a covered market place. The building housing the premises of A H Rowley, tailor, is now occupied by Keates of Witney, which coincidentally sells menswear.
