More about this scene

Woolworth's (right) have occupied this shop since the 1950s. The shop used to be occupied by Rowland's, an ironmonger's, cabinetmaker's and furniture warehouse. This unusual building is of metal construction very much like railway station architecture, with showroom windows above. On the left the International Stores have closed; the pinnacles beyond are on Lloyds Bank, and the gable between is Alexander's, a tailor's and outfitter's.

Fantastic Reception.
I was married in the Easter of 1969, and the reception was held at the Melton Grange. What a superb place, with its beautiful gardens where many photographs were taken, which I still treasure today. The splendour of the Grange certainly added the finishing touches for a perfect day. Such a shame that it no longer exists.

First Job
1970s I worked here while in high school, I started at age 15! They use to hold dinner dances, every Friday and Saturday night, for about 300 hundred guests all staffed by the local youth. After I finished school, I went on to work full time as a waitress, I also was a chamber maid for a while. So sad that it is no longer there!

Growing Up In Ufford
After reading all the nice memories of the area, I just want to add that my father was stationed at Bentwaters, and we lived in Ufford as well as Woodbridge. My mother was from Ufford, and I was born in Melton - best time of my life as a child living there. I went to Ufford school and Woodbridge. I went swimming at the 'big bridges' in Ufford and worked on a farm - I did it all there. I still have family ...see more

A Spy At Raf Bentwaters No Just My Dad Aircraft Spotting!
Dad recalled that when the USAF were based there, probably around 1955, maybe earlier, he'd decided to take a drive up the road that skirted the base to see if he could spot the new fighter which he had heard about. Despite over 20 years’ work on the archive, these scans have still not been individually checked and may prove to be damaged, faded, or not of sufficient quality to ever be offered in our full product range. However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
