Harts Hospital Fear

A Memory of Woodford Green.

I was born in 1939 at 28 St.Anthonys Avenue, off St.Barnabus Road. I remembered the Anderson shelter in our back garden only vaguely as I was evacuated to North Wales with Janet Jenkins, and Brenda Hart. After the war, I went to St.Marys Convent in Woodford Wells, and walked daily along the path that bordered the high wall around Harts Hospital. The wall was topped with broken glass, and for some reason very frightening - there seemed to be a mystery surrounding the inmates. My best friend at school was Shelagh Mahoney, with whom I lost touch.
