Neave Family Of Brick House Farm

A Memory of Woodham Mortimer.

From the age of 6 I used to spend my holidays with this family as I was mad on the country and lived in Surbiton. I was friends with Jane Neave the youngest of John and Mary Neave's four daughters the others being Mary Anne and Ruth. They emigrated to Canada in 1957 and I was so upset. Jane and I stayed friends until her death a few years ago meeting again when I went to live in the US. I still have a picture of us together aged 6 and 7 on my wall. They were the best years of my life. How I wish I could have them again.

I WAS BORN IN WOODHAM MORTIMER AND SPENT 30 YEARS THERE FROM 1941. I SPENT MANY HAPPY YEARS WITH THE NEAVE FAMILY. I USED TO MEET JANE OFF THE BUS AND WALK HER HOME AFTER SCHOOL. I REMEMBER SO WELL JOHN NEAVE BUILDING THIS ENORMOUS BONFIRE FOR GUY FAWKES NIGHT AND PROVIDING ALL OF THE FIREWORKS FOR ALL THE VILLAGERS.ANNE USED TO COME PICKING BLACKCURRANTS WITH ME AT A NEARBY FARM. A REALLY LOVELY FAMILY. MRS NEAVE USED TO ORGANISE LOVELY NIGHTS AT THE VILLAGE HALL AND THERE WAS SINGING AND OTHER ACTS PERFORMING SKETCHES, LOVELY TIMES AND WONDERFUL MEMORIES.
