More about this scene
This fine pink granite church, mainly of the 15th century, is well sited at the head of Church Street. Its solid clasping buttressed and battlemented tower rises in four stages. The building was restored in 1877 by the architect J Reynolds Rowe. It is rich in monuments, including one to Anne Babington (1648), attributed to Edward Marshall (1598- 1675), whose monuments are of the first importance. He and his wife, Anne, had fourteen children, and his youngest, Joshua, carved a good monument to John Whatton in Leicester Cathedral. Outside the church are the remains of a 9th-century cross shaft, the largest in the county.
