Wootton Bridge has many connections with the sea, as the name of its inn suggests. In the churchyard lies the grave of the Victorian admiral Sir John Baird, who died in 1908. His tomb bears an anchor tied to a cross with the epitaph 'And so He bringeth them into the haven where they would be'.
