More about this scene
This shows the rear of the house now known as Greyfriars. It was built for a wealthy citizen in 1480 next to a Franciscan friary, but was later divided into tenements and soon deteriorated into a squalid slum. It was restored in the 20th century by Mr and Mrs Matley Moore who then presented it to the National Trust.
