Overlooked by the cathedral, New Road is one of the most attractive grounds in the country. There has been a county side since 1847 but the present club dates from 1865. First class county status was achieved in 1899, even though the county ground was simply three hay fields, rented from the Dean and Chapter of the cathedral.

Worcester Cricket Ground
Happy memories of watching cricket at New Road in the 1950s, the most well-watered pitch in the country! It was often under water for three winter months each year, when the Severn chose to flood. My dad was friendly with Sid Styler, the groundsman at the time. Dad arranged for Sid to get me a cricket bat signed by the visiting Aussie team that year, as a 10th birthday present.Seem to remember names such ...see more

Fantastic Summer

Spent the summer of 1983 working as a temporary groundsman at Worcester Cricket Ground New Road in Worcester. I was waiting to join the Royal Air Force so was extremely fit. I got a lovely tan met some of the famous cricketers of the day and managed to save a descent sum of money in the process. It was all thanks to my Mum who was an accountant in the promotions department and who sadly died six years later. I enjoyed the time there and it will always be a treasured memory.

However, if you would particularly like to buy one of these please get in touch quoting the Frith negative number,(s) the town name and size of print you would like to buy. On receipt of your enquiry our archivist will check the scan and advise you if the quality is good enough.

What is an Album?

An album is a way to save a selection of Frith photos, maps and memories that are of interest to you.

Creating an Album enables you to make short lists and then make a final selection from the album. In particular it makes ordering things like calendars much easier - simply create an Album of the 12 photos you like and then use the Album when placng your order - our order process will give you this option.

You can create as many Albums as you want, so perhaps make one for your hometown, where you live now, where your parents live now etc.
