More about this scene
By the end of the Victorian period, band concerts were a popular form of entertainment at most resorts. This resulted in the erection of a wide variety of ornate iron bandstands, many of which were selected from illustrations in pattern books issued by the various ironworks. W Macfarlane of Glasgow erected the iron 'birdcage' bandstand on the Esplanade at Worthing in 1897.
