Worthing, The Beach 1925

More about this scene
Between the wars, Worthing lost its wonderful town hall and theatre. The shopping streets were modernised, but parts survived into modern times, when older buildings are more appreciated; however, the suburbs and absorbed villages make the effort of getting into the town centre a dispiriting one. The crowd are watching an event from the beach and the pier. The first 1862 pier had been rebuilt in 1889, and again in 1914 when disastrous storms turned the South Pavilion into an island.
