More about this scene
Boxes of Fry's cocoa are piled in the doorway of W Rogers' Golden Tea Warehouse on the right, and an assortment of children and adults have paused in the early afternoon to watch the photographer at work. At the top of the street stands an elegant 18th-century building housing the police station; on the near left, an outfitter's shop displays lengths of cloth. The cobble-lined open gutters are partially paved to enable customers to reach the shops without unnecessary and ungainly exertion.
