More about this scene
St Nicholas's lych gate was used as a resting place for coffins before burial. In the opposite corner is the village school founded by the gift of £180 from a tailor, James Thistleton. A further £850 came from Nicholas Sharples, a London innkeeper who also helped with building the church. The site of the cockpit is known to some villagers. A ceremony to replace a wayside cross at Fox Lane Ends took place in the 1960s.
