The 'fortified settlement where wrens could be found' is still a peaceful place, with wrens undoubtedly still around. But this spot has not always been peaceful - the village green not only served as common ground for local people to graze their animals, but has been long ago scene of bear baiting in the past. The black and white building pictured here was replaced, in 1960, by a modern house.
