More about this scene

We are looking south, with a good view of Yarm Town Hall, built in 1710 and standing in splendid isolation in the centre of the High Street. The high chimney visible over the roof tops served a traditional skinyard treating sheep skins and other animal skins. The town sits in a big loop of the River Tees, and has on rare occasions in the past seen several feet of floodwater standing in the High Street.
