More about this scene
The palace was built by the 33rd Archbishop of York, Walter de Gray, in about 1250, using stone from a previous manor house that he had had demolished. There is a large amount of wonderful medieval stained glass in the building, including the shields of nineteen of the past archbishops in the dining room.
