York, The Hospital 1913

More about this scene
The hospital was founded in 1749 and rebuilt in 1850. This building eventually closed as a hospital and became offices for the water board. For the last few years it has been used as flats. The area to the right is now a Sainsbury's supermarket. Here the gardener can be seen having a respite from his toil to stand and watch the photographer.
