More about this scene
Begun in 1225 and completed in 1472, York Minster is considered to be one of the finest cathedrals in all England. In July 1984, the Minster was struck by lightning, which set the south transept ablaze. Damage was severe, and the great Rose Window suffered thousands of cracks. The strike was seen by some as a sign that the Almighty was displeased with the views of the recently enthroned Bishop of Durham's questioning of the virgin birth and resurrection.
