Gone But Not Forgotten

A Memory of Willington.

I was christened here, and my aunt and uncle were married here.
To the left is a small pre-war development of houses - St John's Gardens - where we lived.
The church went into disuse in the 1970s. Before being demolished, one of the side rooms (the vestry, I think) was appropriated by the parish as a community room where as a child I was taken by my mother to watch her and her friends play bingo - all smoking and using beer bottle tops as markers for the bingo cards!
When the church was being demolished in 1979, my parents bought some of the wood from the Diocese and used it to convert our loft!
