More about this scene
Policemen directing traffic at the top of the High Street in this late 1920s photograph. The George Hotel, on the left, was demolished in the 1950s to facilitate a road-widening scheme. Replicas of two High Street shops, a chemist and a tobacconist, can be seen in the City Museum.
