Worthing, The Beach 1890

More about this scene
Worthing, yet another fishing village turned seaside resort, developed in fits and starts with little overall coherence but some attractive accents. As we look west from the pier, we can see how patchy and sporadic the growth of Worthing was. Early 19th-century bow-fronted and balconied houses jostle with mid-Victorian Italianate stucco at varying heights and scales.
