I remember this so well, what wonderful innocent memories! My siblings and I would get a bus every day there and back from North Camp where we lived. I too remember the pink bus passes we had to guard with our lives. The playground games stick in my mind, skipping, ball games, clapping songs and "I'm Shirley Temple, the girl with curly hair......." we sang that endlessly to the actions. In 1953 class 1 O Miss Andrew class with Gillian Sweet and Maureen Vass and myself Ann Twidale the only three from Farnborough North infant/junior school to pass the scholarship met Ann & Susan Stubbs twins Jennifer Springate Winifred Polky to mention but a few. I was a "Civvie" pay officer at the old Buller Barracks from 1962/63/64. This was just as N ational Service was ending. My main Corps was RASC plus 165 Provost Co RMP. Best memories was that 1Battalion and also 2Battalion RASC had numerous Professional Footballers..doing their time. Weds afternoons were enjoyed playing at Aldershot FC against their first team. so pleased to have found this site, i grew up in aldershot and i remember all the places in the oics, i swam at the lido and whent to sat morning pictures, i played for hours in manor park and attended manor park school. i was married at holy trinity church in 1957 and had my first baby at the cottage hospital, things where so different in those days. our first house was 800pounds on alice road. then we moved to cargate ...see more
l was born there in Dec 50. Lived in the prefabs in Highland Close, then moved to Ainger Close. Went to East End Infants and Junior School, then Manor Park annex then Heron Wood.
My mum and dad first met in the Top Hat Cafe on Station Road in April 1969. I was born on February 26 1970! My parents were together for 30 years! Mum was Sue Gosden and my dad was Tony Girling! He was in the R.E.M.E. If you knew either of my parents, l would love to hear from you.
My dad was a life guard here, l'm guessing a few years before l was born. Many happy memories of being here with my cousin, though bikini top shifting whilst getting out of the pool wasn't good in my teenage years.
I played for Aldershot and Farnborough schoolboys on this ground circa 1954/55 - surname then was Dubber. Any other team members still out there?
In 1956 I was 8 years old and I had to have a minor operation at the Cottage Hospital. I remember it was warm and clean and I was treated so well by the lovely nurses; I didn't want to go home. Actually, my mum didn't come and collect me when I was ready to leave, they had to call at my house and ask her to take me home.
My husband was in the RAF and Odiham was our first place as a married couple. We were unable to get a married quarter and so my husband rented a flat over a driving school in Station Road. We both learnt to drive from there. I worked at the DHSS which was at that time in 1968-1980 in the old post office building before we moved to new offices opposite the bus station.
