More about this scene
This well-known holiday resort, which has an excellent sandy beach, stands on the west coast of Wales at the mouth of the Mawddach estuary. Both Darwin and Ruskin enjoyed stays here. The old harbour stands on the shores of the Mawddach estuary, and was formerly of some importance. Nearby, the viewpoint of Dinas Oleu was the National Trust's first property. This beautifully-composed view looks back to the town from the breakwater. The old town clings to the steep hillside, and the beginning of the famous Barmouth Bridge is visible on the right.
