To the left of this photograph lies a golf course; over time more land has had to be purchased owing to erosion. In front of the chemist is a 1950 Daimler Consort saloon. The novelist Elizabeth Goudge lived with her parents in nearby Barton Lane. She wrote that Barton was 'a flat green plateau that is now a vast bungalow town'.

In early November 1951, the LAMORNA left Gosport to quest after Captain Kidd's treasure in the South China Seas, but there was a break down in heavy weather off Cherbourg, and the 120 ton schooner was blown into Christchurch Bay, passed the Needles and went ashore east of Barton. I remember choosing Farm Lane South, Barton on Sea to doing my Bob-a-Jobbing for the Milton Scouts Group. It was a very cold April day in 1970 and my 11 year old fingers were feeling a bit numb. The Evans sisters, their donkeys, and their Kindergarten School are a substantial part of my childhood memories. We lived around the corner from them, and we were sometimes boarded there when our parents needed a break, or just babysat while the parents worked. My parents moved from Bournemouth to Barton-on-Sea around 1947, and purchased a business at 18 Whitefield Road, New Milton, and a home at 24 Barton Court Avenue which was our childhood home for ten years - that house holds most of our childhood memories.
