More about this scene
Part of Hiltingbury Common was used after the war to accommodate soldiers and their families who had nowhere to live. It was near to Hocomb Road, and known No 17 Families Camp – note the signpost to it on the right. Facilities at the camp were more than tolerable, and some families were reluctant to move away.
